March 7, 2025: The Guwahati administration has launched an eviction drive in Birubari, near Arya College, to reclaim a huge portion of government land currently under alleged encroachment.

As part of this effort, 11 houses have been demolished so far, with the operation commencing in the early hours of the morning.

Prior to the eviction, notices were sent to the families approximately 25 days ago, instructing them to vacate the premises.

A significant police presence was deployed to ensure a smooth eviction process.

Notably, 45 out of 69 families affected by the eviction have petitioned the high court, while the remaining families are being evicted.

The eviction drive follows the issuance of a final notice on Thursday.
