Guwahati: The Congress party launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led government in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, criticizing its handling of the Manipur crisis. Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the state and listen to the concerns of the people, stating that peace cannot be restored "at gunpoint."

Gogoi questioned the imposition of President's rule in Manipur and the Centre's alleged failure to address the state's issues. He also criticized Home Minister Amit Shah for not returning to the state despite promising to do so.

Another Congress MP, Alfred Kanngam Arthur, termed the state's budget "anti-people" and claimed that it had no allocation for the victims of ethnic violence.

He stated that building the nation includes building Manipur and that the Centre has no right to govern if it does not prioritize the state's development.

In response, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman claimed that there has been an "overall improvement" in the law and order situation in Manipur and announced that Rs 400 crore has been allocated for relief camps.
