Tura: The A'chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) has strongly condemned the MLAs from Garo Hills for voting against a resolution to establish Tura as the winter capital of Meghalaya.
The resolution, introduced by opposition leader Mukul Sangma, was rejected by the MLAs, sparking outrage among the people of Garo Hills.
ACHIK termed the rejection as a "betrayal" of the people's mandate and a "direct attack" on their legitimate aspirations and rights.
The group accused the MLAs of prioritizing their political alliances and personal gains over the welfare of Garo Hills.
In response to the rejection, ACHIK has vowed to take action, including publicly exposing the names of the MLAs who voted against the motion, demanding explanations, and organizing protests and awareness campaigns.
The group also threatened to explore legal and constitutional measures to ensure decentralization of governance in Meghalaya.
The Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, has announced the formation of a committee to examine the demand for a winter capital, which will include all party leaders and stakeholders.
However, ACHIK has made it clear that the fight for a winter capital is far from over and has urged the community to unite and hold their leaders accountable.
The group warned that the MLAs who voted against their own people will face the consequences in the next elections, and urged the people of Garo Hills to remember this betrayal and reject such leaders in the future.
