Guwahati: A police team busted a fake gold racket in Morigaon, Assam on Tuesday evening apprehending at least three persons.



The Morigaon Police busting the fake gold racket, seized 2 kilograms of counterfeit gold.



The accused, Abu Hanif, a resident of Lahowal, was arrested along with another person, Pinku Kataki, the owner of the house where the fake gold was being sold.



According to the police, Abu Hanif attempted to sell the "fake gold" in the form of gold bars and biscuits.



The gold, weighing 2 kg, included 1.5 kg of gold bars and 0.5 kg of gold biscuits. Police said that the accused had attempted to sell the gold to three youths from Uttar Pradesh.



They were also detained in connection with the case and further investigation is being carried out.



Police also informed that the accused, Abu Hanif is a resident of Lakhimpur and is suspected to be a part of a larger gang. They also added that the source of the seized item is being investigated to figure out their modus operandi.
