Lalit Modi surrenders Indian passport

March 8, 2025: Lalit Modi, the founder of the Indian Premiere league (IPL), has applied to surrender his Indian passport at the Indian High Commission in London. This move comes after Modi acquired citizenship of Vanuatu, a south Pacific Island nation. Modi has been living in London since 2010 and is wanted by Indian Law enforcement agencies for alleged embezzlements of funds during his tenure as IPL chief. The Indian govt will examine Modi’s application in accordance with existing rules and procedures.

“He has made an application for surrendering his passport in the high commission of India, London.” External affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.

Modi has been embroiled in several controversies throughout his career. Shortly after IPL 2010 ended, Modi was suspended from BCCI after being accused of misconduct, indiscipline and also financial fraud.

He was banned in 2013 for life after finding him guilty of these charges.
