April 1, 2025: A police constable in Barpeta has been suspended following allegations of bribery. The suspended constable, identified as Sanjay Kalita, was serving at the Barpeta Sadar Police Station.

According to reports, Kalita allegedly demanded money from a youth in Dangarkuchi, Barpeta, for not wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle. The incident came to light after a video showing the constable taking money went viral on social media.

Taking swift action, Barpeta Superintendent of Police (SP) Sushanta Biswa Sharma initiated an inquiry into the matter. Following the investigation, SP Sharma issued an immediate suspension order against the constable.

The incident has raised concerns about misconduct within the police force. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against any officer found guilty of corruption.
