The elections, aimed at strengthening grassroots democracy, will see an estimated 18,036,682 voters participate, marking a 13.27% increase from the 15,641,456 voters recorded in the 2018 Panchayat Election.



The polling process will be conducted in two phases divided between 14 and 13 districts.



The process begins with the issuance of the election notice by District Commissioners on April 3, 2025. Candidates will have until April 11, 2025, to file their nominations, followed by the scrutiny of nomination papers on April 12, 2025. On the same day, the list of validly nominated candidates will be published. Aspirants can withdraw their candidature by April 17, 2025, after which the final list of contesting candidates will be released.



The polling for this phase is scheduled for May 2, 2025, across the districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Majuli, Jorhat, Golaghat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Cachar, Hailakandi, and Sribhumi.



In case a re-poll is necessary, it will take place on May 4, 2025. The counting of votes, marking the culmination of the first phase, is set for May 11, 2025, and will continue until completed. This structured timeline ensures a smooth electoral process for these key districts in Assam’s local governance elections.



For the 13 districts, polling date has been fixed for May 7, 2025 and re-polling for May 9 (if requred).



Counting of votes will also take place as the first phase on May 11 from 8:00 AM until completion).



Dhubri, South Salmara Mankachar, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Bajali, Nalbari, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Hojai, Nagaon, Morigaon and Darrang will be covered in the second phase.



The electorate comprises 9,071,264 male voters, 8,965,010 female voters, and 408 voters identified as others. The Commission has also decided to update the Panchayat Electoral Rolls, allowing new electors eligible as of January 1, 2025, to be added. A total of 25,007 polling stations will be set up, reflecting a 6% increase from the 23,505 stations in 2018.
