New Delhi: A lively debate in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday took an entertaining turn when Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav poked fun at the BJP's delay in announcing its national president.
While discussing the Waqf Bill, Yadav diverted from the topic to comment on the BJP's leadership selection process, prompting a witty response from Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Yadav jokingly remarked, "A party that claims to be the biggest in the world can't even elect its own national president."
His comment drew laughter from the opposition benches.
Amit Shah responded with a smile, highlighting the difference between the BJP's democratic leadership process and dynastic politics.
"Unlike other parties, where national presidents are chosen from a handful of family members, we have a massive membership base of 12-13 crore members. This naturally makes our selection process more time-consuming," Shah explained.
This exchange added a lighthearted moment to the intense parliamentary discussions, underscoring the ongoing debate about political party structures and internal democracy.
