Guwahati: Security forces have arrested five suspected militants belonging to different proscribed outfits in two Imphal valley districts, according to police reports on Wednesday. The arrests were made in Imphal East and Bishnupur districts on Tuesday.



Five militants were arrested in Manipur, and they have been identified by their affiliations.



From the United National Liberation Front (Koireng faction), two active cadres, Thongam Ronaldo Singh and Khuraijam Micheal Singh, were arrested in Imphal East district for their involvement in extortion activities in Imphal and Bishnupur districts.



Two Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) cadres, Wairakpam Jagatchandra Singh and Pebam Romen Singh, were arrested in Bishnupur district for their involvement in extortion activities in Imphal West district.



One Socialist Revolution Party Kangleipak (SOREPA) member, Tayenjam Sanatomba Singh, was arrested in Imphal East district for serving monetary demands and threats to government officials.



In a separate operation, security forces seized a cache of arms and ammunition from Chingkhei Ching area in Imphal East district. The seized items include one 9 mm pistol with magazine, one automatic single barrel gun, three hand grenades with nine detonators, one .303 LMG, 144 live ammunition, two INSAS LMG magazines, one INSAS rifle magazine and one radio wireless set.



The arrests and seizure of arms are a significant blow to militant activities in the region.
