Kolkata Shocker: Government Employee Stabs Four Colleagues After Leave Denial

February 7, 2025: In a shocking incident, a government employee in Kolkata's Newtown area stabbed four of his colleagues after allegedly being denied leave. The accused, Amit Kumar Sarkar, then roamed the streets with a bloodstained knife in hand, warning bystanders not to approach him. The horrifying visuals of the incident were captured on camera by onlookers.

Sarkar, an employee of the technical education department at Karigari Bhavan, lost his temper after an argument with his colleagues regarding his leave request. Following the altercation, he attacked four staff members—Jaydeb Chakraborty, Santanu Saha, Sartha Late, and Sheikh Satabul—before attempting to flee.

The victims were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where two of them are reported to be in critical condition. Meanwhile, police officers arrested Sarkar and have begun an investigation into the matter.

Authorities are still trying to determine the exact reason behind the leave denial. Initial reports suggest that Sarkar may be suffering from mental health issues, but further examination is needed.

This shocking act of workplace violence has left the city stunned, raising concerns about mental health and stress management in government offices.
