February 7, 2025: Delhi’s political landscape heated up as a team of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials arrived at former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday. The visit came after Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena ordered a probe into Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s allegations that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attempted to poach its candidates ahead of the Delhi elections.
Kejriwal had accused the BJP of offering ₹15 crore and ministerial positions to at least 16 AAP candidates in an effort to sway them. His claims were supported by senior party leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, who termed it a “direct attack on democracy.”
AAP’s legal cell president, Sanjeev Nasiar, raised questions about the ACB's actions, alleging a political conspiracy. “They have no legal authority to take action. They arrived unprepared, without proper documentation, and seemed to be taking instructions over the phone. This is clearly a BJP-orchestrated drama,” Nasiar stated.
The probe was initiated after Delhi BJP general secretary Vishnu Mittal lodged a complaint with the LG, dismissing AAP’s allegations as “false and baseless.” Mittal accused the ruling party of spreading misinformation to “tarnish the BJP’s image and create panic.”
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva went a step further, accusing Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh of “losing mental balance” and warned of legal action if they failed to provide concrete evidence.
As the controversy deepens, the political atmosphere in the capital remains tense, with both parties locked in a battle of accusations and counter-accusations just days after the polls.
