February 8, 2025: A fire broke out at the under-construction Sabarmati bullet train station in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, early on Saturday morning. The blaze erupted around 6:30 a.m., prompting an immediate response from the fire department. Thirteen fire tenders were deployed to the site, and officials managed to bring the fire under control.
According to a statement by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the fire was reported in the roof shuttering of a section of the construction site. Preliminary findings suggest that welding sparks from temporary shuttering work may have ignited the flames. However, authorities are still investigating the exact cause. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
NHSRCL officials are closely monitoring the situation as work on the Sabarmati station progresses. The station is set to be India’s first-ever bullet train terminal, showcasing modern design and cutting-edge infrastructure. The ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, covering a distance of 508 km with 12 stations across Gujarat and Maharashtra, is being developed with financial and technical support from Japan.
The railway minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, had previously shared a glimpse of the station’s futuristic design on social media in December 2023. Despite this minor setback, the project continues to move forward as a landmark development in India’s high-speed rail network.
