Guwahati: A man from Tamulpur in Assam has accused the district police of harassing him on accusation of him being linked to the ULFA.
The man is from Gandhibari village in Tamulpur district and was identified as Jayanta Deka.
He claimed that the Tamulpur police harassed him on the pretext of being linked to the banned outfit ULFA. Deka took to social media to share his ordeal, posting videos that have since gone viral.
In his videos, Deka has also levelled serious allegations of corruption against the police at Gandhibari police station, accusing them of involvement in illegal activities such as dice games, wood mills, and chakri games.
He has also alleged that the police were involved in money transactions related to these activities.
Following Deka's allegations, the Tamulpur District Superintendent of Police, Diganta Kumar Choudhary, has been asked to conduct an inquiry into the matter.
It is worth noting that there have been previous instances of alleged police harassment in the region, including a case where a 24-year-old youth from Jorhat died by suicide after being accused of having links to ULFA-I.
