Assam: POCSO convict sentenced to life escapes from Kokrajhar Jail

Guwahati: A man serving life imprisonment in a POCSO Act-related case managed to escape from the Kokrajhar District Jail in Kokrajhar, Assam.



As per reports, Hazrat Ali, 25, managed to escaped while cleaning the jail colony. The incident took place around 1:30 pm, raising concerns about the security measures in place at the jail.



Hazrat Ali, a resident of Chirang district, was lodged under Section 4(2)/17 of the POCSO Act.



Following his escape, the jail superintendent lodged a case at Kokrajhar Sadar Police Station, and the Kokrajhar police have launched an investigation into the matter.



However, it has also been reported that the jail superintendent was suspended shortly after the incident.



This incident is not the first of its kind, as there have been previous instances of prisoner escapes from Kokrajhar district jail, including two incidents where a single prisoner escaped.



Further investigation has been initiated.
