PCB Slams ICC Over Officials' Exclusion at Champions Trophy Finale, Rejects Explanation

March 11, 2025: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has expressed dissatisfaction with the International Cricket Council's (ICC) explanation for excluding PCB CEO and Champions Trophy tournament director Sumair Ahmed Syed from the closing ceremony in Dubai.

The ICC claimed that the original plan was for Naqvi to be on stage, but adjustments were made when he didn't attend the final. However, the PCB rejected this justification, citing incidents where Pakistan's role as host nation was undermined. These included the unauthorized alteration of the Champions Trophy 2025 logo during the India-Bangladesh match and a mix-up that led to the Indian national anthem being played during the Australia-England fixture in Lahore.

The controversy didn't dampen the tournament's success, with India emerging victorious against New Zealand by four wickets in the final. Despite this, Naqvi commended his team, law enforcement agencies, and ICC officials for ensuring the tournament's success.

The PCB's objection is the latest development in a series of tensions between the PCB and ICC. Earlier, the PCB had demanded an explanation from the ICC regarding India's refusal to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. The PCB had also rejected a proposed hybrid model for the tournament, emphasizing its commitment to host the tournament exclusively in Pakistan.
