Guwahati: Ricky AJ Syngkon, Lok Sabha member from Shillong and Voice of the People Party (VPP) leader, has called for an independent quality audit of the repair work on National Highway 6 in Meghalaya.
In a letter to Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Syngkon expressed concerns over the substandard repair work on the vital corridor connecting Meghalaya to other states.
Syngkon's concerns were sparked after an inspection at Kuliang village in East Jaintia Hills revealed that the tar/pavement could be easily removed by hand, indicating gross negligence and poor contract implementation. The MP stated that this shoddy workmanship jeopardizes the road's durability and sustainability, particularly in the region's challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions.
The VPP MP urged Gadkari to intervene immediately and take corrective measures to rectify the deficiencies, stressing that a highway of such critical importance must meet the highest standards of quality and safety.
