March 13, 2025: Assam has achieved a groundbreaking milestone in its healthcare sector with the successful completion of its first ever robotic knee replacement surgery at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday, March 11. This pioneering procedure utilized robotic arms and computer-assisted navigation, enhancing accuracy during joint replacement.
The benefits of this innovative surgery are numerous, including minimized tissue damage, reduced recovery time, and improved long term results for patients with severe knee conditions. This achievement marks a significant leap forward in Assam’s healthcare sector, providing patients with access to cutting edge medical technology.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to commend this achievement and announced plans to install full-fledged robotic surgery units in Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Silchar.
