Guwahati: Three individuals were arrested in Sivasagar, Assam for allegedly demanding money from an elderly couple while posing as members of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA).



The accused, identified as Deep Hazarika, Salim Ullah, and Jamal Ali, were taken into custody on Wednesday, reports said.



According to police reports, the trio made a phone call to the elderly couple on March 5, demanding money in the name of ULFA.



However, the reports did not state the amount demanded or which faction of ULFA they claimed to be a part of.



The couple, residing on GNG Road, promptly filed a complaint with the Sivasagar Sadar Police Station.



A case (No 39/2025) was registered based on the complaint.



Following a thorough investigation, the police apprehended the accused. Further investigation regarding their involvement in crime is being carried out.
