Shillong: The Achik State People's Front (ASPF) organized a public meeting in Baghmara, South Garo Hills, Meghalaya, to mobilize support for establishing a Winter Capital in Tura.
The meeting, attended by community leaders, social activists and citizens, aimed to pressure the state government to prioritize the long-standing demand.
Speakers emphasized the importance of a Winter Capital, citing it as a fundamental right neglected by the Meghalaya government for over 50 years. They urged unity among Garo community representatives to achieve this aspiration.
The meeting follows a resolution introduced in the state assembly, which, although not supported by all members, led to the formation of a committee to examine the demand.
The ASPF thanked the Chief Minister and opposition leader for their support and called on the public to participate in the movement until their objectives are realized.
