January 31, 2025: At least six people lost their lives and several others sustained injuries when an out-of-control truck rammed into a vehicle carrying devotees returning from the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on Friday evening. The tragic incident occurred in the Kusmi Kala area near the Nandganj police station.
Reports indicate that the pickup van involved in the crash had approximately 20 passengers onboard at the time of the accident. The collision caused extensive damage to the vehicle, and emergency services were promptly dispatched to the site.
All the injured have been rushed to Ghazipur Medical College for immediate medical care. The District Magistrate, along with local police and administrative officials, has arrived at the location and is supervising ongoing rescue operations.
Authorities are also searching for the truck driver, who fled the scene after the crash, leaving behind a devastating aftermath.
This accident comes just a day after a deadly stampede in the Sangam area of Prayagraj claimed the lives of at least 30 people and injured 60 more. The stampede occurred early in the morning when millions of pilgrims crowded together to take a holy dip during the "Mauni Amavasya" – one of the most significant days in the Hindu calendar.
Authorities are working to manage the aftermath of both incidents while urging citizens to remain cautious in the face of such dangerous situations.
