PM Modi Announces 'One Nation One Election' and Uniform Civil Code During Unity Day Celebrations in Gujarat

October 31, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 149th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with floral tributes at the iconic Statue of Unity, coinciding with the annual Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations. The Prime Minister's visit is part of a two-day tour to Gujarat, where he emphasized the importance of national unity and shared upcoming legislative initiatives.

Addressing a large gathering at the Unity Parade Ground, PM Modi highlighted the unique significance of this year's celebrations, noting the simultaneous observance of the festival of Diwali. "This time, the National Unity Day has brought a wonderful coincidence. On one hand, we are celebrating the festival of unity, and on the other, it is the festival of Deepawali," he said.

He underscored the significance of Diwali, describing it as a festival that not only "illuminates the country" but also enhances India's connection with the global community. This remark resonated in the wake of US President Joe Biden's Diwali celebrations at the White House, which included over 600 prominent Indian Americans.

In a significant policy announcement, PM Modi revealed that the government would soon implement the 'One Nation One Election' initiative and the Uniform Civil Code. These measures, he stated, are aimed at fostering unity and streamlining governance in India.

As the celebrations continued, PM Modi expressed optimism about India's role on the global stage, asserting that the festival of lights is increasingly being recognized and celebrated as a national festival in many countries around the world.
