January 28, 2025: Infosys co-founder Senapathy Kris Gopalakrishnan, along with former Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Director P. Balaram and 16 others, has been booked under the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act, Karnataka police confirmed on Monday, January 27.



The case was filed at the Sadashiva Nagar police station following directions from the 71st city civil and sessions court (CCH). The complainant, identified as Durgappa, a member of the tribal Bovi community, alleged caste-based discrimination, wrongful implication, and threats during his tenure at IISc.



Durgappa, a former faculty member at the Centre for Sustainable Technology at IISc, stated that he was falsely implicated in a honey trap case in 2014, leading to his dismissal. He further alleged that he was subjected to casteist abuse and threats, which added to his grievances.



Apart from Gopalakrishnan and Balaram, others named in the case include IISc faculty members and staff, such as Govindan Rangarajan, Sridhar Warrier, Sandya Vishwswaraih, and Hari KVS.



No immediate response has been issued by IISc representatives or Kris Gopalakrishnan regarding the allegations.



Kris Gopalakrishnan, a prominent figure in India’s IT industry, co-founded Infosys and held key leadership positions, including serving as CEO and managing director from 2007 to 2011 and as vice chairman until 2014. He has also held prestigious roles, such as the presidency of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in 2013-14 and co-chairing the World Economic Forum in 2014.



The case is now under investigation, with further developments awaited.
