Handcuffed Criminal Rides Bike with Cop on Pillion in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri, Sparks Outrage

December 16, 2024: A bizarre and unsettling scene was captured in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, where a handcuffed criminal was seen riding a motorbike with a police constable sitting pillion. The video, recorded by a passerby from a car, quickly went viral on social media platform X, drawing widespread attention.

The short clip shows a busy road where the handcuffed criminal, with a rope tied around his wrist to the constable’s hand, can be seen operating the motorbike. While the accused is without a helmet, the constable, who accompanies him, is seen wearing one. The unusual sight left many viewers in disbelief as it appeared that the constable had entrusted the accused with the responsibility of riding the bike, reportedly because he was feeling too cold to do so himself.

Mainpuri police have since acknowledged the incident. A statement released on X in Hindi confirmed that the matter would be investigated and necessary actions taken. "The concerned person was directed to investigate and take necessary action," the police wrote.

As of now, the identity of the criminal and the details of his alleged crime remain unclear. The incident has raised several questions about police protocol, with many wondering how such an unusual situation could arise.

This case is not the first to spark concern over traffic rules in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier this year, a man from Rampur was fined ₹1,000 for allegedly driving his car without a helmet. At first, he dismissed the fine notification as a mistake, but after receiving follow-up messages and an email, his apprehension grew, highlighting the ongoing enforcement of traffic rules in the state.

The strange occurrence in Mainpuri, however, has now become a subject of widespread online debate, with many questioning the actions of the police constable and the overall handling of the situation.
