Govt Hikes Salary, Allowances, and Pension for MPs and Ex-MPs

March 24, 2025: The Central Government has officially increased the salary, daily allowance, pension, and additional pension for Members of Parliament (MPs) and Ex-MPs. The revised rates will be effective from April 1, 2023, as per the latest notification issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

Under the new structure, the monthly salary of MPs has been raised from ₹1,00,000 to ₹1,24,000, while the daily allowance has gone up from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500. Similarly, the monthly pension for Ex-MPs has seen an increase from ₹25,000 to ₹31,000. The additional pension for every year of service beyond five years has also been revised from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 per month.

The increase is based on the Cost Inflation Index, as outlined under the Income-tax Act, 1961, to adjust for rising inflation.

The notification, issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, aims to align the financial benefits of MPs and ex-MPs with current economic conditions, ensuring their compensation reflects inflationary trends.

This move underscores the government's commitment to maintaining the financial well-being of both current and former legislators, acknowledging their roles and contributions to the nation's governance.
