February 15, 2025: The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has launched an investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding the renovation of the former official residence of ex-Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The move comes after allegations that construction norms were flouted to convert the property into a sprawling mansion, now dubbed 'Sheeshmahal.'

The complaint, filed by BJP leader Vijender Gupta on October 14, 2024, claims that the renovation extended across 40,000 square yards (8 acres) and involved the demolition of government properties, including two bungalows on Flag Staff Road and Type-V flats on Rajpur Road. These properties, previously allocated to senior officers and judges, were allegedly merged into Kejriwal’s official residence without proper layout plan approvals.

According to Gupta, the construction violated the permissible ground coverage and Floor Area Ratio (FAR) norms. Acting on these allegations, the CVC has directed the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

The controversy surrounding Kejriwal's former residence has sparked political debates, with opposition leaders accusing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of misusing public funds for luxury renovations. The AAP, however, has dismissed the allegations as a political vendetta aimed at tarnishing Kejriwal’s image.

As the probe unfolds, the findings of the CPWD and further directives from the CVC will determine the next course of action. Meanwhile, the political storm over 'Sheeshmahal' continues to intensify.
