Boatman Earns ₹30 Crore During Maha Kumbh: Yogi Adityanath Highlights Success Story

March 5, 2025: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared an inspiring success story from the recently concluded Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, revealing how a boatman and his family amassed a staggering ₹30 crore in just 45 days.

Addressing the state assembly during the discussion on the 2025-26 budget, Adityanath highlighted the economic opportunities created by the grand religious gathering. According to him, the boatman owned a fleet of 130 boats, each earning an average profit of ₹23 lakh during the Kumbh, translating to approximately ₹50,000-52,000 per day per boat.

The Chief Minister emphasized the financial impact of the Maha Kumbh, stating that the event attracted visitors from over 100 countries and significantly boosted Uttar Pradesh’s economy. "The Maha Kumbh transcended barriers of caste, region, and religion, showcasing a perfect blend of tradition and progress," he said.

Responding to allegations of discrimination at the event, Adityanath dismissed them as baseless and accused the opposition of attempting to spread misinformation. He asserted that the Kumbh was an inclusive affair that underscored Uttar Pradesh’s global prominence. "For the opposition, the devotees visiting the Maha Kumbh were merely a vote bank, but for us, they represent our heritage and faith. That’s why people trust our government," he remarked, taking a swipe at the Samajwadi Party.

With over 66 crore devotees and sadhus taking a holy dip at the Sangam, the Maha Kumbh proved to be a massive religious and economic spectacle. Adityanath estimated the event’s total contribution to Uttar Pradesh’s economy at a whopping ₹3.5 lakh crore, reinforcing its role as a key driver of growth and livelihood opportunities in the state.
