March 5, 2025: Congress leader Shama Mohamed  is all praise for the Indian cricket team after its astounding victory against Australia in the semi final of ICC champions trophy. She said she’s very happy and excited for India’s big win and also congratulated Virat Kohli for becoming the first player to score 1000 runs in ICC knockouts.

Mohamed, a dentist by degree, was at the top of controversy recently as she fat shamed Indian captain Rohit Sharma. In a now deleted post on X, she wrote that Rohit Sharma is the most unimpressive captain India has ever had, and he needs to lose weight as he’s too fat to be a sports man. Shama Mohamed also said that Rohit Sharma is a mediocre player who got lucky to be a captain of India.

 Following her remarks on Sharma, a wave of criticism followed from various walks of life. BJP criticized her remarks and asked if Congress wants Rahul Gandhi to try his luck as Cricket Captain after a failed political career. However congress distanced itself from Shama’s remarks and said it doesn’t reflect the party’s opinion on the Indian cricket captain. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia also slammed the congress spokesperson , saying it was very unfortunate for a responsible person to pass such trivial comment in the middle of an ongoing cricket event as it can have negative effect on a cricketer’s mind.

Mohamed defended her statement saying it was a generic statement, although she deleted the post later as ordered by the party. She also dug out an old post of Kangana Ranaut, now a BJP MP who criticized Rohit Sharma over his remark on farmer’s protest and asked for comment from sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
