BJP Targets Rahul Gandhi Over Alleged George Soros Link; Congress Accuses BJP of Spreading Falsehoods

December 5, 2024: A war of words erupted between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress party on Thursday, with BJP leaders accusing Rahul Gandhi of being part of a "dangerous triangle" involving billionaire George Soros, foreign agencies, and media outlets. The sharp attack escalated into a raucous exchange in Parliament, prompting a temporary adjournment of the Lok Sabha.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra launched the first salvo during a press conference, claiming that Gandhi was involved in a conspiracy to destabilize India. "On one side of this triangle is George Soros from America, alongside some foreign agencies, and on the other side is Rahul Gandhi, a traitor of the highest order," Patra declared, accusing the Congress leader of betraying the country.

Patra further linked Gandhi with the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), an Amsterdam-based media outlet, claiming it was funded by Soros’s Open Society Foundation. He insinuated that Gandhi followed the directives of these foreign entities to undermine India's national interests. "I am not afraid to call Rahul Gandhi a traitor," Patra said, intensifying the attack.

The BJP’s allegations were echoed by Member of Parliament (MP) Nishikant Dubey in the Lok Sabha, who accused the Congress of conspiring with foreign forces to destabilize the Indian government due to its animosity toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dubey cited Soros's history of intervening in global economies, notably his role in the 1992 British pound crisis, and claimed that the billionaire was now attempting to "derail" India's economy.

The BJP MP also targeted Gandhi for his meetings with American lawmakers, including Ilhan Omar, who have criticized Modi and his administration. "The Congress must answer for what transpired in those meetings," Dubey said, alleging that the party was involved in a foreign-backed campaign to destabilize the Indian government.

The Congress party was quick to denounce these charges, with party leaders vehemently defending Rahul Gandhi. They condemned the BJP for spreading falsehoods and personal attacks, accusing them of attempting to tarnish the reputation of the opposition. Congress leaders also took aim at Dubey, calling his comments "derogatory" and "unwarranted."

The uproar continued in the Lok Sabha, where Congress MPs protested loudly, demanding a withdrawal of the statements. The noise was so intense that the Speaker was forced to adjourn the session briefly. The Congress also slammed the BJP for shifting focus from pressing issues and indulging in baseless allegations.

The political drama unfolding in Parliament reflects the growing tensions between the BJP and Congress, with both sides digging in their heels over the allegations. With the accusations against Gandhi gaining traction in certain media circles, it remains to be seen how this latest battle will influence the national discourse in the lead-up to the 2024 elections.
