283 Indians Rescued from Job Scam in Myanmar, Repatriated by Indian Government

March 11, 2025: In a significant rescue mission, 283 Indian nationals who fell prey to fake job offers in Myanmar have been successfully repatriated. The operation was coordinated by the Indian embassies in Myanmar and Thailand, with the evacuees being flown back by an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft from Mae Sot, Thailand, on Monday.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), these individuals were misled by fraudulent job recruiters and later forced into cybercrime and other illegal activities in scam centers along the Myanmar-Thailand border. The Indian government has been making sustained efforts to secure the release of its citizens trapped in similar employment scams across Southeast Asia.

Reiterating its caution against such fraudulent recruitment schemes, the MEA urged Indian nationals to verify job offers thoroughly before accepting them. "We advise all job seekers to check the credentials of foreign employers through our embassies and ensure the authenticity of recruiting agents and companies," the ministry said in a statement.

The Indian government continues to take strong measures to combat human trafficking and job fraud, emphasizing the need for vigilance and awareness to prevent further exploitation of Indian citizens abroad.
