January 29, 2025: The accused in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody, with the court rejecting the police’s request for further custody. The Magistrate emphasized that further police detention was not warranted at this stage, suggesting that if new evidence arises, the police could seek custody after a period of 30-40 days.

The investigation officer, Ajay Lingnurkar, had appealed for two additional days of custody, citing key developments in the case. "In the last five days, we have recovered the shoes of the accused, and traced where he purchased the weapon and tools used for the break-in," Lingnurkar informed the court. He added that a face recognition process had been initiated, and the police were conducting further investigations in Kolkata to track the accused's movements, including how he entered India and sent money to his family in Bangladesh.

Despite this, the Magistrate, referring to the new Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) law, noted that the accused had already been in police custody for over 10 days, suggesting that the current custodial arrangement was sufficient. "Read the BNS," the Magistrate instructed, advising against granting additional police custody for now.

Saif Ali Khan, the 54-year-old Bollywood actor, was stabbed multiple times during what authorities have described as a robbery attempt at his Bandra residence, 'Satguru Sharan,' around 2:30 AM on January 16.

Advocates Sandeep Sherkhane and Dinesh Prajapati, representing the accused, contested the remand, challenging the justification for continued custody. The case continues to unravel as the police gather more information regarding the accused’s background and motives.

The next steps in the investigation remain closely watched, with the authorities focused on uncovering more details about the accused's activities and his links to the violent act.
