March 6, 2025: A man suspected in multiple chain snatching cases and receiver of some stolen items was injured after being hit by a vehicle in Guwahati, Assam while allegedly attempting escape.

The accused, Asadul Islam (30), reportedly tried to flee from the police near the Chachal area in Guwahati in the wee hours of Thursday.

He was arrested in a case registered with the Dispur Police.

The accused is a resident of Matifata in Dhubri district.

According to police, the accused was being taken to a spot where he had hidden the proceeds of some crime.

However, during the visit, the accused tried to escape from the police by jumping from the vehicle near the Chacal ground.

The police also said that the accused had attacked an on-duty constable while attempting to escape.

It was during this when he fell and was hit by an unidentified vehicle from behind.

Reports said that he was hit by a pick-up truck from behind as he fell to the ground during the escape bid.

The accused was immediately taken to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and is currently being treated.

The police claimed that the vehicle that hid him was pursued by the police but it managed to escape.

Further investigation is being carried out.
