Guwahati: The Assam government has relaxed its land transfer rules, allowing inter-religious transactions to take place with prior approval from the state government.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that Assam is a highly sensitive state, requiring careful management to prevent communal disturbances.
To this end, the government has permitted inter-religious land transfers, provided they receive prior approval from the state government, he said.
The CM added that this measure ensures that each case is thoroughly reviewed before granting permission.
In addition to this key policy decision, the Assam government has also announced several other initiatives aimed at promoting economic growth, technological advancement, and social harmony in the state.
The announcement was made after the budget session.
Some of the key budgetary announcements included the introduction of proton beam therapy, aimed at making Assam a hub for medical tourism.
Assam also has plans to launch its own satellite in collaboration with ISRO, citing the state's flood-prone nature and the necessity for a dedicated satellite to monitor and mitigate flood-related issues.
