Guwahati: In what has been termed a major relief to the residents of Naduwa Hatigadhoi village in Chabua, Dibrugarh, a massive leopard that had been terrorizing the area was successfully caged.
The leopard, which had been attacking and killing domestic animals such as cows and goats, was trapped in a cage set up by the villagers in collaboration with the forest department.
The capture of the leopard has brought relief to the villagers, who had been living in fear of the big cat's attacks.
Hundreds of people gathered to catch a glimpse of the caged leopard, which is a significant development in the efforts to mitigate the leopard menace in the region.
It may be mentioned that earlier administration had issued a warning about a leopard roaming in the human-inhabited areas of Dibrugarh. People were asked to exercise caution owing to the presence of the big cat.
With the capture of the leopard in Chabua, the risk of human life being in threat has been minimized.
However, the forest officials said that they are taking all precautions to ensure that no other such leopards are in the area.
