Story highlights

The accused child is not being prosecuted because of his young age at the time of the shooting

January 30, 2024: The trial has begun in a Belgrade court for the parents of the 13-Year-Old child who allegedly killed 10 people - nine of his classmates and a security guard - in a Serbian School last year with his father’s weapons.

The father identified as V.K. is charged with a serious crime against general security, suspected of having trained the child on how to handle weapons, as well as failing to provide conditions for guarding firearms, prosecutors said on January 29. The mother identified as M.K. is charged with illicit production, possession, and trade of weapons.

On the other hand, the accused child is not being prosecuted because of his young age at the time of the shooting. However, the teenager is now in a mental hospital.

The prosecutors are seeking a 12-year sentence for the father and 2 ½ years for the mother.

As per sources, the mass shooting rocked the Balkan nation, setting off major anti-government demonstrations that led to the formation of an opposition coalition that stood in recent elections.
