March 31, 2025: India is bracing for scorching summer, with the IMD warning of hotter than usual temperatures from April to June. The central, eastern and north western plains are expected to bear the brunt of the heat, with more heat wave days than predicted.



According to IMD director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, several areas will experience two to four more heatwave days than usual during this period. Typically, India records four to seven heatwave days between April and June. However, this year’s forecast is more alarming.



States expected to be affected:



Northwestern states: Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat, Punjab



Central states: Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra



Eastern states: UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha among others



Southern states: Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and parts of Karnataka



In April, maximum temperatures are expected to be higher than usual across most of India. Minimum temperature will also be higher than normal, as per report.
