IPL 2025: RR Captain Riyan Parag Fined ₹12 Lakh for Slow Over Rate Against CSK

March 31, 2025: Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during their IPL 2025 clash against Chennai Super Kings at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) governing body confirmed the penalty in an official statement, citing it as Rajasthan’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct. The fine is in accordance with the tournament’s regulations, which impose stricter penalties for repeat offences, including increased fines or potential match suspensions for the captain.

Parag is the second captain in IPL 2025 to face a penalty for a slow over rate, following Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya, who was fined earlier in the season for a similar violation against Gujarat Titans.

Despite the setback, Rajasthan Royals secured their first win of the season, successfully defending a target of 182 runs against CSK. The victory helped them climb to ninth place in the points table.

The IPL has been stringent on over rate violations to maintain the pace of the game and avoid delays. Teams will have to ensure compliance with the regulations to avoid further penalties in the tournament.
