Japan is struggling with the largest fire in 5 decades

March 4, 2025: After dry regions like Australia, the western US, now it’s time for countries with humid climate to witness the rage of nature.  Japan, the land of rising Sun, is struggling to deal with a weeklong wildfire, the worst the country has seen in decades.

According to recent data, the fire has engulfed around 2600 hectares of land in Ofunato city of north eastern Japan, and it continues to grow. More than hundreds of homes have been destroyed, thousands of residents have been instructed to evacuate their houses.  Around 2000 firefighters have been   working relentlessly to douse the flames approaching the urban centres.  According to local broadcaster NHK, a person has lost life in the ongoing disaster.  The hilly terrain of the area has made it difficult for the fire agencies to do their work efficiently.

According to reports, Ofunato city saw less than normal precipitation in February, keeping the climate dry.  The dry climate could be caused by climate change. The reason of the wildfire is still under investigation
