October 25, 2024: Cyclone Dana made its landfall late Thursday night, unleashing heavy rains and strong winds across Odisha and West Bengal. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that there were no casualties reported in the state, highlighting the success of the state’s zero-casualty mission.

Coastal districts, including Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Balasore, and Jagatsinghpur, were particularly affected, with wind speeds reaching up to 110 kmph. Despite the intensity, authorities have managed to avoid major destruction or loss of life.

Flight operations, which were temporarily suspended at Bhubaneswar Airport and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, resumed this morning at 8 a.m. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the storm will continue moving west-northwest across northern Odisha, gradually weakening throughout the day.

Although no deaths have been reported, the state remains on high alert for potential flash floods, and further disruptions in train and flight services are expected.
