March 14, 2025: A horrific case of reckless drunk driving shook Gujarat’s Vadodara on Thursday night when a speeding car mowed down multiple two-wheelers in the Karelibag area, leaving one woman dead and seven others injured. The accused, identified as Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia, a law student at MS University, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of his vehicle.
According to reports, Chaurasia was driving a black car at an estimated speed of over 100 kmph when he rammed into several vehicles, killing a woman on the spot. The crash left seven others injured, all of whom were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The accident, captured on CCTV, has left the residents of Vadodara in shock.
Joint Commissioner of Police Leena Patil confirmed Chaurasia’s arrest and stated that the incident was a clear case of drunk driving. “A four-wheeler rammed into a two-wheeler, resulting in the death of a woman. The accused driver has been caught, and investigations are underway,” she said.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos and panic as people tried to help the victims. However, the accused’s behavior after the crash enraged the crowd. A viral video from the scene shows Chaurasia stumbling out of the wrecked car and shouting “another round, another round” before chanting “Om Namah Shivay.” The furious bystanders confronted him and even thrashed him before the police arrived at the spot.
The police have also arrested Pranshu Chauhan, the owner of the vehicle, as both he and Chaurasia were suspected to be intoxicated at the time of the accident. The incident has sparked widespread anger, with citizens demanding strict action against reckless drunk drivers.
Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage and gathering witness statements to build a strong case against the accused. As investigations continue, Vadodara residents are calling for stricter enforcement of drunk driving laws to prevent such tragedies in the future.
