March 6, 2025: Sunita Williams, along with fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore, is finally set to return to earth after being in space for over nine months. Their initial mission was supposed to last only 8 days, but technical issue with the Boeing Starliner spacecraft delayed their return.
According to NASA, Williams and Wilmore will return to Earth on March 19, through a joint mission of NASA and SpaceX.
Upon being asked what she is going to miss after returning to Earth at a press conference, she promptly replied, “Everything.” She said that it was her third flight to the ISS, living there gave her a unique perspective on how to solve problems, and she hopes not to lose that spark when she returns to earth.
She added that she and her companion had a mission to accomplish everyday but for her friends and families, it was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The uncertainty of not knowing when they can return has been the hardest part.
Their replacement crews have already left for the ISS.
On the other hand, Sunita williams has strongly disagreed to Elon Musk's proposal of shutting down the ISS before the agreed time, i.e, 2030. She said, ISS is at its peak in terms of achievements and it has all the powers to have invaluable contribution to Science.
