Five Assam Police Officers Punished in 24 Hours for Corruption and Misconduct

March 11, 2025: The Assam Police force has found itself in a shameful situation as five officers faced disciplinary action within 24 hours due to allegations of corruption, brutality, and dereliction of duty. Citizens have raised concerns, stating that the "protector becomes predator."

In a shocking incident, Sub-Inspector (SI) Ashore Pegu of Doboka Police Station allegedly assaulted two young men, Jalal Uddin and Abdul Haque, portraying himself as a villain rather than a law enforcer. Following public outrage and media reports, he was immediately sent to the reserve clause as a disciplinary measure.

Similarly, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bipul Biswas of Panbari Police Station in Chirang was accused of taking a bribe and refusing to register an FIR. The incident led to his removal, and he was also sent to the reserve clause.

Another officer, SI Shyamal Boro of Panbari Police Station, faced punishment in the form of a transfer after allegations of misconduct.

The controversy deepened in Lakhimpur, where the OC and ASI of Panigaon Police Station demanded ₹50,000 from a complainant and accepted ₹21,000 as a bribe. The officers in question, OC Satyajit Bora and ASI Khirod Saikia, were both sent to the reserve clause as a disciplinary action.

These incidents have severely dented the public's trust in the police force. Citizens and rights activists have demanded strict action against corrupt officers and a thorough investigation to ensure accountability.
