March 18, 2025: Authorities in Mohali have launched a comprehensive investigation after a shocking discovery at a fast food factory in Mattaur. The raid, part of a two day crack down on unhygienic food production, uncovered a dog’s head in a fridge, sparking widespread alarm.
The crackdown began on Sunday, when a municipal team raided a momos and spring roll factory operating out of a residential house. The factory, which had been in operation for two years, produced over a quintal of momos and spring rolls daily, supplying them across Chandigarh, Panchkula and Kalka. Videos had surfaced online showing workers using dirty water and rotten vegetables, prompting complaints from locals.
Upon inspection, officials found frozen meat, a crusher machine and reused cooking oil on the premises. The factory’s unhygienic conditions raised serious concerns about food safety.
The investigation continued on Monday, with the Municipal Corporations medical team raiding chicken shops in Mattaur. Nearly 60 kg of foul smelling frozen chicken were seized and destroyed. Samples were food items were collected and sent for lab testing.
The discovery of the dog’s meat, has sparked outrage. It has been sent to the Veterinary department for examination.
The District Health Officer (DHO) visited two sites linked to the case, finding multiple violations, including the use of unhygienic ingredients. The vendors operating the establishment were found to be unregistered, prompting officials to recommend action against both the factory owner and those running the business.
