March 11, 2025: While BJP is trying to control population of the country through rewards and penalties, many states including Karnataka, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Assam are making preparations for a law to control population, K Appala Naidu, an MP of the Telugu Desam Party has taken a complete opposite turn.
He announced that he will give 50,000 to a couple if they give birth to a girl for the third child, which will grow upto 10 Lakhs by the time she’s ready for marriage. If it’s a boy, then a cow and a calf will be gifted. The announcement was made on women’s day.
This announcement of the TDP MP came after Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu talked about declining birth rates and growing ageing population, particularly in South India, which is affecting the economy negatively. Following this, he announced that leave will be granted to all women employees, regardless of how many children they have.
The debate over India’s changing demographic trend is an ongoing topic. Advocates of population growth suggest that younger population is essential for economic sustainability.
