Wave of Bomb Threats Targets Indian Flights: Over 10 Alerts in 24 Hours Amid Rising Hoaxes

October 19, 2024: In a troubling development for air travel security, over 10 flights operated by Indian airlines have received bomb threats within a 24-hour period. The threats, which included five flights each from IndiGo and Akasa Air, as well as three flights from Vistara and one from Air India Express, have led to extensive security checks and multiple flight diversions.

Early Saturday morning, three international Vistara flights were alerted to bomb threats. Notably, a flight from Delhi to London was diverted to Frankfurt for safety inspections, where authorities confirmed no threats were present, allowing the aircraft to resume its journey. The other two affected flights, bound for Paris and Hong Kong, safely completed their landings at Charles de Gaulle Airport and Hong Kong International Airport, respectively, where they underwent security protocols.

In a separate incident, an Air India Express flight traveling from Dubai to Jaipur received a bomb threat via email. Airport officials conducted a thorough search at Jaipur Airport but reported no suspicious findings.

IndiGo's impacted flights included routes from Mumbai and Delhi to Istanbul, along with another from Jodhpur to Delhi. Akasa Air’s flight from Bengaluru to Mumbai also received a security alert shortly before departure.

In a concerning trend, airlines have reported approximately 70 hoax calls this week alone, with all proving to be false alarms. Authorities are emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance and are urging the public to refrain from making such threats, which can disrupt operations and strain resources.
