Vadodara Car Crash: Accused Claims Potholes Caused Accident, Denies Drunk Driving

March 15, 2025: Rakshit Chaurasiya, a 23-year-old accused in the Vadodara car crash that claimed the life of a woman and injured four others, has denied allegations of drunk driving. Chaurasiya, who was arrested following the incident on Thursday night, claimed that he lost control of his vehicle due to potholes on the road.

The accident occurred around 12:30 am near Muktanand Cross Roads in the Karelibaug area, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Panna Momaya. Eyewitnesses, who caught Chaurasiya at the scene, alleged that he appeared intoxicated and was heard shouting, "another round, another round" after stepping out of the car.

Despite these claims, Chaurasiya defended himself, telling local media that his car was traveling at approximately 50 kmph when he lost control due to the road conditions. "The car lost control because of potholes. I was not drunk. I want to meet the family of the deceased because it was my fault. Whatever they decide should happen," he said.

Expressing regret for the accident, Chaurasiya termed his apology as an “understatement” and stated his willingness to personally apologize to the victim’s family. He further explained that he panicked when the car's airbags deployed, mistakenly pressing the accelerator instead of the brakes.

When questioned about a girl’s name he was reportedly screaming after exiting the car, Chaurasiya dismissed it as a random outburst in a state of panic. The investigation into the case is ongoing, with authorities likely to conduct further tests to determine whether he was under the influence at the time of the crash.
