Assam: The first Indian state to have its own satellite

March 15, 2025: Assam is set to launch its own satellite, called ASSAMSAT, in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and IN-SPACe (Indian national space promotion and authorization centre). This satellite will provide dedicated services for various sectors, including:



:: Agriculture: Weather forecasts, soil health analysis, and crop monitoring data to enhance productivity.



:: Disaster Management: Early warning systems for floods and landslides to mitigate natural calamities.



:: Border Security: Real time surveillance to track illegal movements and enhance security



:: Education and Skill Development



It will also encourage greater private sector participation in Assam.



The estimated cost of the satellite is between 450-500 crores, and it’s expected to be a geo stationary satellite. With ASSAMSAT, Assam will become the first Indian state to have its own satellite, marking a significant milestone in its technological advancement.
