Supreme Court's YouTube Channel Hacked, Crypto Videos Streamed

September 20, 2024: In a startling breach of security, the Supreme Court of India’s official YouTube channel was hacked on Friday, displaying videos promoting a cryptocurrency developed by Ripple Labs.
Currently, a blank video titled "Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC's $2 Billion Fine! XRP PRICE PREDICTION" is live on the channel, raising concerns about the integrity of one of the nation’s highest judicial platforms.

The Supreme Court has utilized YouTube to stream live hearings for constitutional benches and matters of public interest since a landmark decision in 2018, which allowed for increased transparency in judicial proceedings. The decision was made during a full court meeting led by then Chief Justice UU Lalit, and it has since been instrumental in making legal processes more accessible to the public.

Authorities are investigating the breach, emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity in safeguarding public institutions. As the court continues to navigate this incident, further updates are expected regarding the restoration of its channel and the steps being taken to enhance security measures.
