PM Modi Meets Putin at BRICS Summit in Kazan

October 22, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday during the 16th BRICS Summit, highlighting the importance of bilateral relations between India and Russia. PM Modi arrived in Kazan earlier in the day, where he emphasized the significance of the summit in addressing global challenges.

In a tweet upon his arrival, PM Modi stated, “Landed in Kazan for BRICS Summit. This is an important summit, and the discussions here will contribute to a better planet.” His remarks underscore the summit's focus on pressing global issues, including development, climate change, and economic cooperation.

The Prime Minister was welcomed at Kazan airport by Rustam Minnikhanov, the head of the Republic of Tatarstan. In his pre-departure statement, Modi expressed India's commitment to enhancing cooperation within BRICS, which he described as a vital platform for dialogue on global development and multilateral reforms.

Modi's agenda in Kazan also includes anticipated meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and bilateral discussions with other BRICS leaders. He noted that the summit aims to "further reinforce the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership" between India and Russia, especially in light of the ongoing global unrest, including the Russia-Ukraine war and crises in the Middle East.
