October 18, 2024: In a significant operation, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) Narcotics Control Unit in Bengaluru has seized drugs valued at approximately Rs 21.17 crore from the city’s Foreign Post Office. The operation, executed in collaboration with Customs officials, involved the meticulous inspection of over 3,500 parcels, with the aid of a canine squad, leading to the discovery of 606 parcels containing a variety of prohibited substances.
The seized drugs include hydro ganja, LSD, MDMA crystals, ecstasy tablets, heroin, cocaine, amphetamine, charas, and ganja oil, all reportedly smuggled from countries such as the US, UK, Belgium, Thailand, and the Netherlands. Authorities uncovered that these substances were being imported via the Indian Postal Service for distribution at inflated prices to known clients in Bengaluru, indicating a well-organized operation aimed at maximizing profits from the illicit drug trade.
This recent bust is part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking in the city. The CCB Narcotics Unit has registered 12 cases this year and apprehended several individuals linked to similar activities. Notably, in September, three suspects were arrested in relation to cases filed at HSR Layout Police Station and CCB Station.
The ongoing investigations reveal a network of individuals involved in the import and distribution of banned narcotics, prompting authorities to anticipate further arrests as they continue to dismantle this operation. The CCB's commitment to combating drug smuggling underscores the urgent need to address the growing drug problem in Bengaluru and protect the community from the harms associated with substance abuse.
