Chaos Erupts at Waqf Panel Meeting as Trinamool MP Injures Hand

October 22, 2024: Tensions flared during a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting on the Waqf Bill when Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee injured his hand after smashing a glass water bottle in frustration. The incident occurred amidst a heated exchange between Banerjee and BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay, prompting a brief halt to the proceedings at the Parliament Annexe.

Eyewitnesses reported that Banerjee, in the heat of the argument, struck the table with the bottle, resulting in a deep cut to his hand. The MP required four stitches for his injury. Following the accident, he was seen being escorted back to the meeting room by AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi and AAP’s Sanjay Singh.

The meeting, chaired by BJP’s Jagdambika Pal, was intended to gather insights from a panel of retired judges and lawyers on the Waqf Bill. However, discussions quickly devolved into chaos as Opposition members questioned the relevance of the panelists’ views, reflecting ongoing tensions between BJP and Opposition parties.
